Operation: Red Hat – Day 1

I have sucessfully downloaded all three of the RH9 ISO files. Each one took about 5 hours. I then managed to install RH on my old Pentium-200MHz system. Only RH can run on this. It actually runs pretty well. I can’t imagine how it will run on my laptop in a few months. Now to see if I can install the printer!

Operation: Red Hat

I a personal fan of free stuff. I try to aquire most of my stuff for free, or at least at extremely reduced prices. Whilst I like Microsoft and the stuff they offer, it is very expensive to maintain my system with the latest and greatest operating system. So today begins Operation: Red Hat.

My attempt to move to Red Hat Linux.

For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, imagine a more complicated Windows XP, but without the Windows branding and without the Start Bar. Now imagine that the cost is free, but the quality is good. So good, that computer has an uptime of %99.9999999 percent (this is just a guess). That means that in one year, you would not have access to the computer for 0.031536 seconds.

Now this is not my first attempt at running Linux. This is probably the 3rd or 4th try. But it is the first in which I have a computer dedicated soley to running Linux. With any luck, I will put Linux on my Laptop (my main computer) within a few months and run a dual-boot system. In the finally phase, I will run Linux alone…here goes nothing!

Style updates

I changed some of the colors and styles for the site. Also changed some of the back-end coding to make it easier to update. Let me know if stuff isn’t working.

The Dating Index

Ok, this is really cool. I created this new Dating Index. It may be nothing, but it is fun to play with. Go check it out under the ‘Technical’ heading. I also updated some more back end stuff, nothing of real important…but go check out the dating index! Really!

Just had a great idea: What if I made the little “New” icon by the news time based. So I did!

If the news has been posted within the last 86400 seconds(the time() function uses seconds since Unix epoch, how cool is that?), or 24 hours since my last post. Voila!

It also applies to the archived news items.

Yikes! Updates Galore!

Well, I moved all the media into the “Media” section. This allows more room for important stuff like “Me’s” and “Résumé“.

Wait, what’s that you say?!? Andrew’s looking for a job? Yes I am, please hire me.

Me’s is a section where I showcase other people named: Andrew Ferguson.

That’s really all there is for now. I did some more backend coding to make editing a little easier, nothing that affects the outcome of the site though.

Did I mention that I’m looking for a job?

Streaming Media Added!!

Wow, perhaps one of the coolest things since sliced bread. I finally got my Helix Server online. Right now, I’m only streaming on-demand Windows Media Files. But I hope to add some other stuff too.

Bordem is quickly fading into the past as I manage to recall what I supposed to do during Summer Vacation. I added a new section, Flash. These are all the Flash Animations that I’ve done over the years. Go check them out, their pretty spiffy. I’m also working on making the website a bit more modular, to make adding new features and such a painless process. Hope you are all having a great summer!

Welcome to Andrew’s Web Site v6.0 – Starbase 156
