What a Dreary Day

Wow. Today just totally sucks all the way around. I didn’t go into work until 12:30ish. I sat around for about 3 hours or so and played games all day. The entire time it was cloudy and raining. I can’t wait to go back to Colorado.

No More Work Posting

I’ve been given a “No-Go” to post about work. Perhaps at another place, in another time, for another reason. I’ve also removed the “Work” category for the time being.

Email Echolocation

About half a dozen times a day, a massive chorus of beeps is emitted from many of the cubicles around where I work. It didn’t take me long to figure out what it was, the Outlook beep for new mail received. Interestingly enough, the beeps seemed to be staggered at random intervals, all occurring within a second or two though. Depending on the sequencing and the location, it’s pretty easy to tell what group the email was sent to.

I think I’m going to have to bring in my laptop and stereo microphone to see what I can measure.

All Day Meeting

Whew. Just got out of an all day meeting, although it was actually a New Hire Orientation for interns. It wasn’t the worst thing in the world, although it was geared toward 80 some interns on the floor (versus the dozen or so interns in corporate). It did provide some interesting background on Nordstrom…it was still really long though!

Too Much Technology?

One of the “perks” of working at Nordstrom is the RFID card. Actually, just about every company has something like it. The point is to keep people who shouldn’t be in, out. It also makes it easier to track where people go. And if someone loses their card, you only have to disable their card number (instead of replacing the lock and ALL the keys).Yesterday, my card wasn’t working to well. For some reason, being in my wallet was making it not work. The problem was solved by simply taking my card out of my wallet. Easy enough.

Then just now I remembered that I already had an RFID card in my wallet, my school ID card. I had never used its RFID function, so I didn’t think about it. So when my Nordstrom card and my Blaster card were both in my wallet, they both scanned, and the reader freaked out. Interesting.

I’m on my first lunch break EVER! I even clocked out. Cool. I finished working on my previous data merging project earlier this morning and I’m on to another project. I only have 41 more lunch breaks to go, so book yours today!

By the way, my office (yes, I have an office) has a window.

But at The End of The Day

The day started off rather slow, but by 2:30 I was in full swing. I’ve been working on a data merging project (just a fancy way to say copy and paste using Excel) that I should finish by tomorrow.

On The Job

  • Work

I’m at my job now. As in right now. Apparently, things are a little hectic today and they’re not quite ready for me yet, but here I am. My manager gave me the OK to do whatever, so I’m just biding my time.

I really don’t have anything to do. Come rescue me somebody.
