48 States Later

The times they are a-changin’.

This post seems to be older than 14 years—a long time on the internet. It might be outdated.

This takes almost half the work out of planning a trip: finding an efficient route…although I’m sure it could be optimized even more.

From www.kottke.org:

1998, Barry Stiefel took off from work on Friday at 5pm and was back at his desk a little more than a week later on Monday at 8am, having visited every US state in the interim (48 by car, Hawaii and Alaska by air). I love the map…except for the jog to San Francisco, it looks pretty optimized.

This might be a fun trip to do at the end of summer. I have a Subaru which gets good MPG and has decent space. We could camp out the entire way to save on lodging and food.

  1. So lets do the 50 states trip this Summer. That would be awesome! It looks like I will be working at UPS over the Summer, but I should get a week or so vacation.

  2. My guess is that if it happens, it would be either the last week of July or the first week of August. I also have some weddings to work around and a family vacation that has yet to planned.
