48 States Later

The times they are a-changin’.

This post seems to be older than 16 years—a long time on the internet. It might be outdated.

This takes almost half the work out of planning a trip: finding an efficient route…although I’m sure it could be optimized even more.

From www.kottke.org:

1998, Barry Stiefel took off from work on Friday at 5pm and was back at his desk a little more than a week later on Monday at 8am, having visited every US state in the interim (48 by car, Hawaii and Alaska by air). I love the map…except for the jog to San Francisco, it looks pretty optimized.

This might be a fun trip to do at the end of summer. I have a Subaru which gets good MPG and has decent space. We could camp out the entire way to save on lodging and food.
