I was just about to go to bed when I decided that I was thirsty. So I took my Nalgene to the kitchen, filled it up, and added a scoop of Gatorade mix. Just before dumped the powdered mix into my Nalgene, I heard something fall in my room. I thought that Dunstan might have knocked something over again. I quickly screwed the cap back on my Nalgene and began vigorously shaking it as I walked back to my room. I peered in and looked around, but could not find anything amiss. Perhaps one of the other cats knocked something down somewhere else in the house.
A few minutes later, I notice a set of red and blue lights reflecting through my shades and hitting the opposite wall. I peered out and saw two cops down by the intersection of 19th and Jefferson. It wasn’t that unusual one or two, and sometimes even three, cops would all be involved in pulling someone over. It’s not that the person was particularly dangerous (or so I hope), they just don’t have much to do in Golden (the same thing happens in Broomfield). A few minutes later another police car shows up and blocks the intersection right in front of our house (19th and Washington).
Now I’m interested. I throw on a pair of shorts and slip on my shoes, grabbing my camera as I head out the door. I walk over to the officer and ask him what’s going on and in a “Here’s your sign…” moment, he says there’s been an accident. Well yea, I figured that part out. What kind of accident? Who hit whom? Was it a high speed chase? I ask if I can wonder on down and he politely suggests that I could as long as I stayed on the opposite side.
I wondered around the other side of the street: walking through the closed down gas station, walking across the street to the bank parking lot. It was about this time when I finally put the noise I heard in the kitchen and the accident together.
Another officer said that I could go up by his squad car, so I did. I wondered around the back side of the accident next to the Qwest building on the South corner and then back up home. As I stepped in the door, a CSM Police car showed up and started chatting with the officer I first talked with.
Two cars, three ambulances, a fire truck, jaws of life, fire chief, four squad cars, and me.
I really need to go to bed now, I have class in 5 1/2 hours.
