Rated PG for Quirky Situations?

The times they are a-changin’.

This post seems to be older than 17 years—a long time on the internet. It might be outdated.

I’m watching this advertisment fot the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Depp Version) DVD and it says Rated PG: For Quirky Situations, Action, and Mild Language.
Quirky Situations? WTF?
Seriously folks, who over at the MPAA is rating these movies and giving these reasons? Monkeys?
I’ve long since ignored the MPAA rating system. It’s useless and the “standard” keeps changing. Besides, when film makers edit their movies to get a specific rating, that takes away from the film. Although Hitchcock was famous for getting his movie reviewed, waiting a few weeks, and getting it reviewed again…with a lower rating…and with not a single frame changed. The MPAA really doesn’t serve any purpose now. I vote to disband the MPAA. Second?
