I’ve been having some trouble finding a job so I decided that I’ll probably do web design and other freelance work for the rest of the summer. Granted, haven’t actually been looking for a job that long, just about 2 weeks now; but as many of you know, I can get rather impatient when I have to wait for long periods of time with no predictable outcome. Thus, I will be controlling my own fate now, so to speak, and creating my own summer job. I would all suggest that you buy something from Fergcorp…or donate to my college fund (see link on the left).

I interviewed at Molly Brown Temp today. I knew about them becuase they supplied subsitute teachers for SAAS. Anyways, it looks pretty promising. Pay starts at about $10/hour and I have the opportunity to work at several different companies, so I think that will be great. The downside is that they don’t have a lot of work, so we’ll see how many jobs I get, if any.

I was driving to SAAS to drop of some stuff and saw this tiny little car with this fricking huge antenna and thought it just might be worth writing about. Don’t mind the white blurry part, that’s just a crack in my windshield. Seeing as I was driving, it’s not like I could actually look at the viewfinder to see what I was shooting. I just sort of pointed it in the general direction and took the shoot. So there, I wrote about.

In other news, I stopped by Molly Brown Temps to show them my passport for the W-9 form. That means that I am official employed as a temp worker which means that…well, I’m not quite sure what the means. On the way to school, I saw Britney, a SAAS graduate of the class of ‘04 (i.e. my classmate), and said high. Yesterday was her birthday…Happy Birthday Britney. I also say 50 First Dates; it was actually a pretty funny movie.

So I think I’ve found a summer internship, or rather a summer internship has found me. I don’t want to release to many details yet, but there are couple openings at this company that would deal with backend web site development or some POS (point of sale) programming.

I’m heading back to Colorado today at 4pm PST.

I would like to officially accept the Internship at Nordstrom you offered to me on Friday. I am looking forward to being a part of the great Nordstrom community and I am ready and available as soon as the position starts (Monday, June 6th is what I have heard as the rumored starting date). I am not sure what pre-internship forms/applications I need to fill out, but I can stop by and complete those at your earliest convince. Again, thank you for extending this offer to me. I look forward to working with you soon!

My start date at Nordtrom’s has been pushed back two days. I now start on Wednesday of next week.

I stole the title from How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers, a book by Shel Israel and Robert Scoble.

I think it’s a fitting title because, frankly, I don’t want to get “dooced” while working, either at Nordstrom or any future company. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been looking at various sites and talking with various people about how I should approach blogging at work. While there is no clear cut answer, I’m setting up some rules for myself that will hopefully limit by chances of getting dooced.

Don’t post comments that are defamatory, obscene (not swear words, but rather the legal definition of “obscene”), proprietary, libelous, or any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information. Also don’t post anything related to policy, strategy, financials, products, etc.
that has not been made public.

When in doubt, reach out for PR for clarification on whether specific information has been publicly disclosed.

Always provide context and maintain communication channels, both public and private.

Be aware of the company’s PR image. They’ve spent a lot of time and money to present a unified brand image.

Don’t disturb the workplace by pissing off co-workers and bosses.

Well, I guess I passed by background check. I am being paid, which is nice, but I probably would have done it even if I wasn’t getting paid. I am also eligible for the famed Nordstrom discount. I start on June 8th and go until August 5th. Give me a call and we can schedule lunch sometime.

Today is pretty much my last day as a free man. Tomorrow I start my intern ship at Nordstrom’s. I’ll go right from that to setting up the MIR station at Mines, then school starts on the 23rd of August. School will be be pretty much non-stop until mid-December (end of Fall semester). That will be my first break. Of course, that will only last for about a month, just long enough to catch my breath. Then I start up again mid-January and go at it again until school gets out in May. w00t!

I’m at my job now. As in right now. Apparently, things are a little hectic today and they’re not quite ready for me yet, but here I am. My manager gave me the OK to do whatever, so I’m just biding my time.

I really don’t have anything to do. Come rescue me somebody.
