I just spend about two weeks in Montana celebrating Christmas and New Years with Rachel and her family. I got back into Seattle yesterday and Friday morning I’m off to New York for a work trip. I’ll be out there for almost two weeks. I’m not sure how much free time I’m going to have, but I’d love to gather your thoughts on anything I “simply must do” before I leave.
In case it helps, I’m going to be staying in Islip, but will have easy access to common modes of transportation.
Some things on my list already:
- Broadway Show, maybe Wicked?
- SNL show
- Empire State Building
- Ground Zero
- MoMA
- Grand Central Terminal
- Times Square
- Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum
What else should I do? Ideally, these are things I can do on a weeknight or weekend and still have me at work early the next morning.
First time out there? I was out there for the first time last year about this time…
Find a hole in the wall pizza place and order a slice or two (don’t order by the pie)
Pizza @Grimaldi’s, without a doubt.
Go to TKTS and get tickets to a show. Central Park and the 9/11 Memorial are a “for sure” as well.
I got a New York Pass when I went with my mom last summer and it was great! It gets you into a lot of the typical attractions and gives you discounts on lots of other things.
Empire State Building, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Natural History Museum, and the 9/11 Memorial. Though I haven’t seen the 9/11 Memorial, but I would if I went to New York again.
@AndrewFerguson come say hi first.
Might I suggest a gander at: http://alabamadventures.wordpress.com/2010/07/03/manhattanomad/
MoMA was pretty good, but you only need about 2 or 3 hours to see the whole thing. I could have spent an entire day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so I’d suggest that one for sure.
I don’t know who your preferred late night talk show host is, but the Radio City Music Hall might be a good idea as well.
Instead of the Empire, do the Chrysler building…much better view, better rooftop and not as long of line. Have fun!
