10 Years: Where You When Princess Diana Died?

31 Aug 2007 @20:02

As I was driving into school this morning, NPR alerted me to fact that today is the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.

For whatever odd reason, I remember where I was. Our family was in Canon Beach, Oregon and we were heading to the Ramey’s and had just arrived. Dad had a pager that received news alerts and such. I remember that I didn’t believe Dad at first. I’m not sure why I didn’t. And that’s how I found out.

Who else remembers where they were when Princess Diana died?

My mom had been watching the nightly news when she found out, and she woke me up, told me about it, and had me watch the news.

I remember watching the news reports with my mom as she got ready to go to bed that night. I remember not thinking that it was that big of a deal, sad though. It took me a while to realize, mostly after watching all the reports on the huge shrines that went up with hundreds upon hundreds of flowers, that Diana was really important. I guess it stems from the fact that we have no royalty in this country and I never understood how important and dear they are to their people.

I was being stung by a swarm of yellow jackets. Overall I got over 50 stings. I came home and watched all the news reports while ice packs covered my body…
