An electron gun fires electrons at the screen of a television tube. The electrons start from rest and are accelerated through a potential difference of 32200 V. Ignoring relativistic effects, what is the speed of impact of the electrons with the screen of the picture tube?
1.08878×108 m/s
CAPA is done. Well, almost. I have to ask Ruskell about one question.
should be about 2.66*10^17 m/s
pretty fast
Hmm…not quite, especially considering light only travels at 2.99*10^8 m/s.
How did you figure your answer?
Hah..I should’ve realized that the answer was obviously wrong.
I thought the potential difference would be converted to kinetic energy fully so I just equated 32,200 to .5mv^2, using the mass of an electron.
