Salvation Army Dog Ear

Brian Alvey made a Red Cross: Katrina Relief, Donate Now dog ear that can put on websites with just a litte bit of code (see upper right of this blog). However, Brent Yager wanted one for the Salvation Army. Wait no longer, Brent…and everyone else. Just copy and paste the code below anywhere on your website. Then head over to Brian’s site and grab the Red Cross dog ear.

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
document.write(’<div style="position: absolute; left: 120px; top: 0px; overflow: visible; height: 120px; width: 120px; margin: 0 0 0 -120px; padding: 0; z-index: 9999; border: none; float: none;"><img src="http://www.andrewferguson.net/wp-content/images/salvation-army.gif" width="120" height="120" border="0" usemap="#sa"/><map name="sa"><area shape="poly" coords="0,120,0,0,120,0" href="http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/"></area></map>’);
// -->
</script>

Update: Here’s the image so you can right-click and download if you would like to host it off your site
Salvation Army

Update: Here’s the PSD file that I used to create the image. Don’t forget to open it in ImageReady though, as it is an animation. I’ve also released the GIF and the PSD under the Creative Commons.

    Thanks… If you don’t mind people hot-linking the image from your server perhaps you should post it inside this entry so it’ll be easier for people to download it. (I imagine this could suck up a lot of your bandwidth)

    hmm, I can’t seem to get your code to work on my site. I tried putting it in the footer, where I have Brian’s code (working) and then I tried putting it just after the tag — still no dice

    I took a look at your code and don’t know what’s wrong. Try taking out Brian’s code and see what happens.

    Andrew Ferguson for the Salvation Army piece. I’ll try to get these up on the blogger site today as well. If you haven’t donated, please do. It looks like Transit TV (my employer) will be matching donations as well. We should have an announcement this week.

    held, just don’t hotlink from my server, upload the image to your own site. Thanks to Brian Alvey and Engadget for both the original and Japanese graphics that I combined for my version. Another creation based on the same Javascript code is theSalvation Army Donations dog ear by Andrew Ferguson. What I’m Doing I’m going to be auctioning some of my art, selling a bunch of my stuff, donating what I can’t sell or what would better serve as a donation, and taking suggestions from anyone who has them. I have a great graphic that I’d like to put

    Sorry, that HTML didn’t work in my last post. I mean there’s a missing end area tag in Brian’s code.

    I created a Salvation Army dog ear of my own, but my graphics skills are limited so it’s not animated. I’ve updated my post to link back to this.

    In general, posting code on a website doesn’t work unless you encode the special characters…and even then it sometimes doesn’t work. To use Pujiono’s code, just take my code and change the URI of the image to http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/2310/salvationarmy4sz.gif

    I’m not worried about bandwidth, so feel free to just copy and paste my code (and hotlink to my image).

    Adding the Red Cross

    If you’re visiting this site directly (not just reading a feed), and have javascript enabled, then you can see the nifty Red Cross donation banner in the upper-right corner of the page. Brian Alvey explains how to add it to your own site. All I had …

    Corner Banners

    The corner banners are courtesy of two WP hackers, Andrew Ferguson and Brian Alvey.
    Brian Alvey did the javascript for the Red Cross corner banner in the right upper corner. If you don't see it, then your browser is not Java capable. Let me know…

    [...] I found this page helpful.  I’m not sure if there are other or better ways of getting the same effect though.I really dig this idea.  I’d love to see an organized campaign with an official banner and a website.  I’d hesitate to do anything that seemed to commercialize an ancient truth, but it could be very cool. Can you create a similar one for the Salvation Army to go in the left top corner for us? http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/ We’d all really appreciate it. Thanks in advance Brian.Posted at 4:21PM on Sep 5th 2005 by Brent Yager 0 stars6. I made a Salvation Army dog ear that you can use on a site. I put it on the left side of the screen so it doesn’t interfere with the Red Cross dog ear and you can even use them both. Here’s the code: http://www.andrewferguson.net/2005/09/05/salvation-army-dog-ear/Posted at 8:02PM on Sep 5th 2005 by Andrew Ferguson 0 stars7. I uploaded the image to imageshack. I had created on of the ubiquitous 80×15 buttons for Red Cross donations on me site (if you want to see it, it’s at the bottom of page on my blog) but this is really sweet. Great gesture, Brian, thanks. I’d love to inlcude it in my blog, but the TypePad account I have doesn’t give me direct editing access to the underlying templates. Any idea how I can use the graphic in the way in which it’s intended, ie, display at the top-right corner?Posted at 4:51AM on Sep 6th 2005 by Neville Hobson 0 stars12. Thanks for providing the code, I put the image up on my site.Posted at 4:49AM on Sep 6th 2005 by Kristin Wenzel 0 stars15. Neville — you can add it anywhere in your page. So if you have access to edit your list of events, insert it there and it will float to the top right of every page.Posted at 1:06PM on Sep 6th 2005 by Brian Alvey 0 stars16. Added on my blog. Brian, I tried adding to my TypePad blog using a TypeList, but your div seems to get caught within whatever div is enclosing it. I played around with it using Platypus, and it would work if I could insert it outside any enclosing divs, but I cannot do that via TypePad. Is there any way to make it _really_ align absolute?
