How Much Will You Blog While on Vacation?

30 Jun 2005
in the late evening

How often will you blog while on vacation, if any? I’m not really going on that many trips, but I will blog at least once per a day, as per my New Year’s Resolution. TDavid is taking bets Price is Right style on how times he will blog. Caveat: he just got EVDO, so he can blog a lot easier now. I’m guessing he will blog 30 times.

Mimicking the Sympathetic Reactions to a Threatening Environment

30 Jun 2005
mid-afternoon

For my room next year, I am working on custom designing a combination loft bed/desk. Maybe I’ll make the desk higher so I can stand:

By mimicking the sympathetic reactions to a threatening environment (sitting up straight, standing, moving quickly, deeper breathing), it appears to be possible to activate the sympathetic system, which then takes over. We are ready to act, or in our case, be productive. We can also change our environment to one that causes the sympathetic system to activate, one that is more spartan, threatening, or simply uncomfortable. The result? We take action. We are more productive.

Apple Releases iTunes 4.9

28 Jun 2005
around lunchtime

Apple released iTunes 4.9 today. This is something that I’ve been looking forward to for some time now because it integrates podcasting directly into iTunes. I’ve added the UPC Podcast and iTunes New Music Tuesday. I also needed to update my iPod to 3.1 in order to take advantage of the podcasting feature, which also includes bookmarking (waaay cool).

Big Business Needs to Change

27 Jun 2005
mid-afternoon

A rejected TV pilot is thriving on P2P networks and Warner Bros. is pissed. What’s wrong with this picture? To start, WB is complaining about the success of a show they never aired:

The studio declined to comment about the future possibility of airing the show. However, it wasn’t shy this week about slamming the BitTorrent leak.

“Whether the pilot was picked up or not, it is still the property of Warner Bros. Entertainment and we take the protection of all of our intellectual property seriously,” said Craig Hoffman, a company spokesman. “While Warner Bros. Entertainment values feedback from consumers, copyright infringement is not a productive way to try to influence a corporate decision.”

Hoffman added that the pilot’s unauthorized distribution is “unacceptable and illegal … no matter what the underlying motives” and said the company hasn’t ruled out taking legal action “when it comes to stopping the illegal distribution of our copyright material.”

The world is changing. A new company, called the Internet, has emerged and it’s poised to set new rules and standards. Companies and organizations, such as WB, the MPAA, the RIAA, etc., need to realize that after decades of control, it is finally time to pass the reigns to the Internet and let the consumers dictate what they want, not have it shoved down their throats.

Overweight Americans Send U.S. Healthcare Skyrocketing

27 Jun 2005
around lunchtime

Wow. I had no idea the impact was this bad. From DailyIndia.com:

Overweight and obese Americans, who frequently suffer weight-related illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol and knee/joint injuries, have increased spending by private health insurance 10 fold since 1987, says a study released in the Health Affairs on-line journal.

40 Days and 40 Nights

27 Jun 2005
in the wee hours

I just realized I only have 4o days left until I return to Colorado. I’ve added it under my countdown list so you can be sure to know exactly how much time I have left. Despite the fact that I don’t have that much time left, I have to say that I am looking very forward to going back to school. There’s all the friends I have, my house mates, my house, Mines Internet Radio, school, sun, snow, family. Sigh.

Upgraded to PHP 4.3.11

27 Jun 2005
in the wee hours

Just upgraded to PHP 4.3.11. I’ve been having an issue with my timezone getting messed up. I’m almost 100% sure it’s a PHP issue and I hoping that this upgrade will fix that. We’ll see. Let me know if anything doesn’t work.

A Place to Attack Each Other

26 Jun 2005
mid-afternoon

So while I appreciate all the comments and such, let’s try to keep them related to the actual blog. If you want to correct my engrish, feel free to do so. But another person can not correct the commenter’s spelling and/or grammar.
The only exception to this rule will be this post (and this post only!). Feel free to use this post a place to launch person attacks on each other, not that I condone that kind of behavior. I realize it’s inevitable. Have at it…
